Suji Kheer
Aug 5th
By Amanat Khullar
This morning I had an urge to eat something sweet. I wanted to keep it quick, healthy and ofcourse “YUMMY” to satisfy my cravings.First thought that popped in my mind was kheer. Since calorie amount can be a bit scary in rice kheer, I decided to use suji instead of rice and 1% milk instead of whole milk.If you are not familiar with Suji (semolina), it is a nutritious Indian wheat granulated but not pulverized. It has a lot of health benefits but the one I remember is that my mother used to give me suji halwa with warm More >

Savoury Hurry Up Muffins
By Heidemarie SwanepoelThese are quick and easy muffins, with a delicious filling in the centre. I find that these muffins are also a good way of using up those little bits of left-overs that are too little to use for another meal, but too much to just throw away. I like using these little bits in crafty ways – even my boys enjoy their veggie muffins.
Ingredients 1 cup milk 2 eggs ½ cup oil 1 cup flour ¼ teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon BBQ salt 2 teaspoons baking powder
Filling:1 onion 3 rashers bacon ½ – 1 sweet pepper

Easy Turkey Meatballs

Turkey Meatballs
It is always great to have some meatballs on hand when you are in hurry and need to put together a quick and delicious meal. You can make sandwiches, wraps, pizzas, serve with pasta and even throw in soups. I usually make lean turkey meatballs instead of fatty beef ones and make more than I need so I can freeze some for quick meals (as a full time working mom I am usually short of time!). This is very basic recipe and is great for little ones since the meatballs do not have any kind of strong flavor. Even better, More >

Fish Cakes
A very easy, healthy meal to serve, either with toast for a quick lunch, or as a filling for a sandwich, or even together with mashed potatoes and salad as a main meal. This recipe is as versatile as it is delicious. Using the correct fish ensures you are getting your daily dose of Omega 3 and 6, and is very good for the children’s concentration, so I love serving these fresh from the griddle on those mornings when the children are due to write a test at school.Ingredients: 1 tin canned fish (pilchards with tomato sauce is More >
Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

Strawberries dipped in Chocolate
There is a something romantic about strawberries dipped in chocolate. It could be that color red and chocolate are both symbols of romance or it could be just that sweet strawberries are so perfect with indulgent chocolate that they seem to be in love themselves!. Not only do they make a low calorie dessert (about 70 calories a piece!) but they also makes a great snack. While strawberries are in season, this is one thing no one should miss. You need:
20-25 strawberries 4 baking chocolate blocks (semi sweet) sprinkles and/or chopped nuts/or any other topping
Melt the chocolate squares as More >
Honey Toasted Pecans
Nov 25th
Thanksgiving tomorrow! I started with tomorrow’s dinner so I though I should post couple of items today. A very close friend of mine serves her carrot soup with chopped toasted Pecans. I could not get a chance to ask her how she toasts the Pecans, so I just made a honey toasted version for my carrot soup. 1/2 cup Pecans 3 tbsp honey salt to sprinkle Heat oven to 350 F In a bowl, mix the pecans with honey, sprinkle some salt. Place the pecans in an even layer on a baking sheet (lined with foil paper). Roast 8-10 minutes. Let More >
